Through the life and death of my last several blogs, I have used an array of different cameras. I have used everything from the cameras on my phone, to the go pro, the coolpix L110 and even the modest coolpix l22. I have loved them all in their own little way, but if I were to help a fellow blogger out by recommending an all-purpose camera that is still simple to use, I would run screaming for the Powershot SX530 HS.
Ah, bless you for asking. Let me count the ways.

Superior Action Shots
My quest for a new camera actually began because no matter how I tried, I could not take a quality action photo on any of my older cameras. All the tutorials online said I needed a camera you can control the shutter speed on. When I went to our local electronics store, this was one of the only cameras that had that feature.
Turns out, I don’t even need to manually adjust the shutter speed because the ready-made options work so well, but that’s another story.
Okay so when I said it was “one of the only cameras that had that feature” what I meant was: The only camera with that feature that didn’t cost as much as a car. There were several other cameras with that feature, but they were $$$$. I do not have $$$$. If I had $$$$ I wouldn’t be working two jobs as well as being a “house wife.”
This camera is affordable. It is still expensive, but affordable.
That’s right. $250. Eh–and you’ll want to get this cord also as for some reason it doesn’t come with it. (It doesn’t come with an HD card either, but that’s at least expected.
a zoomed in look at an eclipse as the moon just begins to cross the sun
This camera is so good at zoom, you can use it as a poor telescope. Check out the sunspots visible on my eclipse photos with this camera! Is that crazy or what?! You can use it to admire the surface of the moon, and take super close up photos of things like butterflies. Remember that bald eagle you could just barely make out across the river on your hike that one day? You can check his little nose holes for boogers with this camera.
And to add onto that, it has stabilizing assistance so it doesn’t wobble as much for most shots. (For extreme zoom, I strongly recommend a tripod anyway, just so you don’t have to worry about it.)
It even has a fish-eye filter and a feature that lets you take a series of photo shopped photos. (Different color tents, changes the angles for you, etc.) It really adds an interesting look to otherwise boring photos.
No camera is perfect, and this camera is of course no different. In the case of the PowerShot SX530, the lens is not interchangeable. Now it doesn’t bother me any, because the only lens I wanted was the fisheye lens and the camera automatically does that, but if you want to get a camera that screams, “I am a pro and this is my business” you’ll want a different camera. Bonus though: You can attach filters.

The other thing I don’t really care for is the instruction manual is not all that great. I am a strong reader, and I learn by reading. The book doesn’t even seem to cover all of the features of the camera, let alone how to use them to bring out the best in your photos. I had a very difficult time with grainy shots in indoor lighting before I figured out which setting was best.
Luckily, if you decide to use this camera you just have to bookmark this page and come back. Since I love this camera so much, I will be writing an article on each feature the camera has, how it works, and how you can use it to bring out the best in your photos.
I give this camera 5 stars. I’m sure there are better cameras, but I have not been blessed with the experience of using them. This camera is affordable, versatile, and takes clear quality photos in almost any lighting. If you’re not sure, I invite you to click through some of my blog and look at the photos. Most of the photos in this blog were taken with this camera.
