Dog & Scissors is a 12 episode adaptation of a Japanese light novel series written by Shunsuke Sarai. It’s about a bookworm, Kazuhito Harumi, who dies horribly before he can read the last book by his favorite author, and his desire to read it is so strong he comes back to life–as a dog.
To make matters more complicated, the only person in the world who can hear his thoughts is the author of that very novel, and also the person he saved while dying. She’s a rather terrifying person. Together, they work toward finding Kazuhito Harumi’s killer. It is a hilarious and light hearted story that I enjoyed thoroughly.
A word of warning: It’s filled with sexual innuendo, including BDSM themes. Harumi is constantly making snide comments (that are meant for just himself!) in his head about Kirihime Natsuno (the author who adopts him) mostly about her breasts, and then ends up getting threatened by her with a pair of scissors.
If you don’t mind some sexual humor and you like comedy, you will probably like Dog & Scissors. As a 12 episode anime, this is about as short as you can expect from a series, and watching them will be shorter than binge watching all the Harry Potter movies. (Heck, its probably shorter than watching half of them, but I confess I didn’t do the math.) If you are easily offended, you may want to try a different anime, such as Kimi No Na Wa.
