With just 3 weeks remaining to my 5k Prep Race (and first race ever!) I’m doubling down on my workouts. My daughter has been swept off to various parks and hiking trails for 2-3 mile runs as I struggle to repeat the PR I set the last time I wrote.
Unfortunately, despite resting, not resting, drinking fluids, cups of coffee, and every other recommendation online, I simply can’t seem to achieve that speed and distance again.
I can’t explain it as even while I’m struggling to move forward, I run a mental checklist of my body to try and diagnose what’s wrong: is it my legs? My hips? My lungs? My heart?
My body seems to be A-Okay, but for some reason I still find my eyes glued to the time/distance and really struggling to keep going. I’m not sure what’s wrong.
Today, after not running for a week to try and see if it was simply being too tired, I ran again. Only, I didn’t. I kept stopping to take pictures of the incredibly beautiful surroundings, to take my daughter out of the stroller so she could inspect the flowers and leaves, and of course, there was that time we found a swinging bench overlooking the lake.
It took us an hour and a half to do a 45 minute run, but it was such a marvelous experience I don’t regret it. We had a conversation with an older woman about being active parents, watched a man feed some squirrels, and watched a bee pollinate some flowers.
I can’t wait to go there again with my big camera and get photos that better reflect this beautiful and wonderful area.
